Raising Trout
Caring for Trout, Conserving the Yellow Breeches
At Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Association, raising trout and stocking are at the heart of our mission. Through the dedication of our volunteers and partnership with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, we help enhance local fishing opportunities while supporting the long-term enjoyment of the Yellow Breeches Creek for the public.

Our Trout Nursery
YBAC is a proud participant in the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission Cooperative Nursery Program. Through this partnership, the Fish & Boat Commission provides fingerling trout that are raised by our volunteers and later stocked into local waters as a supplement to the Commission’s stocking program.
Located just outside of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, the YBAC nursery raises approximately 36,000 trout each year.
Volunteers play an essential role in the daily operation of the nursery by:
- Filling automatic feeders
- Monitoring fish health
- Cleaning screens and equipment
- Maintaining the nursery grounds
- Assisting with general operations
The nursery is operated entirely through volunteer support and member involvement.

Raising Healthy Trout
Throughout the year, the trout are carefully raised and monitored to prepare them for stocking season. The club raises brown, rainbow, and palomino trout, providing healthy fish that will eventually be released into the Yellow Breeches watershed.
The care and dedication provided by volunteers help ensure that thousands of trout reach stocking size each year, supporting quality fishing opportunities for anglers throughout the region.

Stocking the Yellow Breeches
Each year, YBAC stocks trout throughout more than fourteen miles of public fishing waters on the Yellow Breeches Creek. The club also stocks certain special regulation areas and Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania.
Stocking efforts are coordinated to help provide excellent trout fishing opportunities throughout the year. To reduce stress on the fish during release, YBAC utilizes float stocking methods whenever possible.
The trout raised at the nursery supplement the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission’s stocking schedule and help maintain one of Pennsylvania’s most popular trout fisheries.

Powered by Volunteers
The success of the trout program depends entirely on volunteers who donate their time throughout the year. From caring for fish at the nursery to assisting with stocking days, members play a vital role in every stage of the program.
Specific stocking dates are shared with members via email, providing opportunities to participate in one of the most rewarding aspects of the club’s conservation efforts.
General membership meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the nursery facility (except December).
